Finding Quality Building Materials and Other Challenges During A Home Renovation

August 19, 2018

Starting a home renovation project is exciting.

Once you are in the middle of the project, it is easy to become frustrated. Here are a few frustrations you are likely to run into during a home renovation project and how to get around them.

1. Not knowing which building materials to use.

You know to only use quality materials in your home, but you don’t know how to determine if you are buying quality materials at the best price. The best way to find good materials is to get a few different opinions. Do a little research.

The team at Kaufman by Design is here to help you find the building materials you need for your renovation project. We can help you determine the best materials for the job, without adding any unnecessary costs.

2. Poor communication.

This home renovation project should not include you trying your hand at plumbing or electricity. It might seem expensive to hire a pro, but you are saving on the large expenses you would incur if something goes wrong with the major systems of your home (plumbing, electricity, HVAC, and more).

This means you’ll have to communicate thoroughly with everyone you hire to do a job. They can give you an estimated cost and tell you about how long the work will take.

3. Construction chaos.

Don’t feel bad about needing to escape the chaos of your home during a renovation project. A home going through a renovation will likely be full of drywall dust and more. It will have loud power tools running in the background and building materials scattered about.

Staying in the mess won’t encourage you to get the job done faster. If you give yourself a break from it every once and a while, you will feel less frustrated and more positive about the outcome of this project.

4. Inadequate budgeting.

No one in the history of ever has anticipated all the expenses of their remodeling project. Take your budget and add anywhere from %10 to %15 more to cover unplanned expenses.

The last thing you want to happen is having to halt your remodeling project, leaving your home in a mess, while you save up to finish.

How do you avoid inadequate budgeting? Talk with a general contractor to make sure you are accounting for all costs. Consider getting approved for a loan to speed things up if needed.
