Summer Hardware: Top Summer Lawn Care Tools

August 30, 2019

A great lawn is the envy of the neighborhood, but it doesn’t happen without a lot of hard work and hardware. Many people choose to have their lawns professionally done, but if you take a DIY approach to summer lawn care, there is a set of lawn care tools you should have to keep your lawn in tip-top shape. Here are five tools your lawn will thank you for:

Lawn Mower

The one lawn care tool that most people have to take care of their own lawn is a lawn mower, but not all lawn mowers are created equally. If you are still using a hand-me-down mower that cuts the lawn unevenly or leaks, you are not doing your lawn any favors. When purchasing a lawn mower, look for at least a mid-range one from a reputable brand that has a good warranty. If you have a large yard, a gas one will be ideal for you. If do not have much grass to mow, electric will get the job done.

Hoses and Sprinklers

Dry spells are a huge part of summertime, but your lawn should not have to suffer for it. To keep your lawn lush and green until fall arrives, you need to invest in a set of hoses and sprinklers. If you have a small yard, you can get away with buying a hose that has a sprinkler head. Yet, if you have a much bigger yard, the lawn care tool you will need is a sprinkler. A sprinkler will save you a lot of time and will ensure that all areas of your yard get watered evenly.

Lawn Rakes

A rake is a very inexpensive lawn care tool that can pay off in a big way. Many people only think to rake their yards once autumn arrives and all of the leaves fall to the ground, but you should also be raking it in the spring and summertime. The reason for this is that rakes break up any matted down grass that has been crushed by snow or ice, then the soil is able to soak up more air, water, and sunlight.

Shovel or Spade

Shovels and spades are two different tools, but they can be used for many of the same purposes, so you only need to have one on hand if you are putting together a basic lawn care tool kit. Shovels and spades are great for cleaning up animal and plant debris, but make sure that they are kept sharp so that you don’t have to over-exert yourself while using them.

Fertilizer Cart

Fertilizing your lawn can go very wrong if you are not spreading the same amount of fertilizer across the entire lawn, which could cause your grass to grow unevenly or parts of your lawn could even die because of too much fertilizer. Plus, having a cart to carry the fertilizer all over the yard will save you from having to haul it around and constantly bend over to spread it on the grass.
