Easy Springtime Projects to Freshen Up the Look of Your Home

Beginners Guide for Buying Lumber

Springtime is a beautiful time of year. Finally, the gray, slushy snow starts to disappear for good, and green plants spring up in its place. The days last a little longer and get a little warmer, and you stop feeling like you’re cooped up in your office, house, and car all of the time. You get the chance to enjoy spending time outdoors in the sunshine, whether it’s in your yard, at the local park, or on a family road trip.

There’s a good reason why people feel compelled to do spring cleaning. It’s the time of year that just feels like a new beginning, maybe even more so than New Year’s. The changing of the seasons gives a lot of people energy and motivation to get started on projects that they’ve been meaning to get to all winter.

We’ve compiled a handful of fun, easy projects with varying levels of involvement, so you can get something done no matter what your schedule is looking like.

Wreaths

Although the image that pops into your head when you hear “wreaths” might be a decadent Christmas wreath, made from pine branches, ribbons, and ornaments, wreaths are actually great for all seasons!

And while you’re free to take a walk through the woods and find the perfect branches in the wild to make up your wreath, you can also take a hike through your local craft store and choose some faux branches that will last you year after year.

You have your choice of aesthetic, from a fun, bright wreath featuring faux butterflies and flowers to a minimalist wreath with greenery and some selectively-placed blossoms. Either way, you’ll need a wreath form to get started. There are all kinds of options– from wire to styrofoam. Some even have some greenery already on them!

Assembling the wreath is pretty easy. All you’ll have to do is use floral wire to wrap your desired decorations around the wreath form, securing everything carefully around the form. Floral wire is pretty discreet-looking, too, so even if your wreath of choice is minimalist, it’ll still look great. Now you’ll have a cheerful, fresh piece of decor for your front door to welcome springtime to your home!

Repaint Your Front Door

Painting the rooms of your home can be a major commitment; you have to move all the furniture, cover the floors, and meticulously tape off baseboards.

On the flip side, painting your front door is a lot easier, less time-consuming, and much less of a commitment. If your door is looking a little dingy after a long, cold winter, you can brighten up your house (and increase curb appeal) by choosing a fun and welcoming new color. Bonus points if you add your brand-new wreath after it’s dry!

Create Wall Art

The good news is that you don’t need to be a master artist to create some pretty wall art for your home. You just need to get inspired and collect the right materials!

There are tons of options available to you, so let your imagination run wild. Our suggestion? Framed botanicals! It’s simple and very pretty, so it’ll add some springtime charm to your home without a lot of stress or expense.

Pretty much all you have to do is find some flowers that you love. Your local park will have plenty to offer– we don’t recommend looking through your neighbors’ flowerbeds. After you’ve gathered the flowers and plants you’d like to use, you can just place them inside of a heavy book (while making sure to add some paper towels or other paper to protect the pages!)

You’ll have to wait patiently for a couple of weeks for the plants to dry out fully, but when they do, you can find a glass frame, carefully adhere the plants to the glass where you want them to stick (use glue sparingly!), then let it dry for a while. Add the second piece of glass and finish putting together the frame– and voila! You’ve got some pretty new springtime decor.

The ideas above are some of our favorites, but there are so many other projects you can complete to give your home a whole new vibe for springtime: replacing hardware on bathroom and kitchen cabinets, repainting wooden furniture and cabinets, revamping outdoor patio and living spaces, and much more.
